General Questions
- What is the Authorize.net 2.0 App for Windows?
- The Authorize.net 2.0 App is a virtual point-of-sale (VPOS) application for Windows that lets you securely accept credit and debit card payments, manage transactions, configure POS settings, and connect supported hardware such as card readers and receipt printers.
- Where can I download the Authorize.net 2.0 App?
- As of Nov 17, 2025 you can download the app from the Microsoft Store. Search for Authorize.net 2.0 and select Install.
- Do I need a merchant account to use the app?
- Yes. You must have an active Authorize.net merchant account to log in and process payments.
- Are there restrictions on using the app?
- Yes, we currently only support processing for the following processors on the Windows app.

- Can I process EMV (Chip) transactions on the new Windows app?
- Yes, Chip processing is currently supported on the Windows app if you are using the processor FDC, TSYS, or EPX.
Installation & Setup
- How do I install the app from the Microsoft Store?
- Open the Microsoft Store on your Windows device.
- Search for Authorize.net 2.0.
- Select the official app and click Install.
- Once installed, click Open to launch it.
- What hardware do I need to use the app? Use a compatible USB-connected card reader for swiping or inserting cards. You can also add a receipt printer for printed receipts.
- How do I connect my card reader to the app? Plug in the USB card reader, then go to Settings > Payment Acceptance > Add Card Reader in the app.
Payments
- What payment methods does the app support?
- Credit/Debit Card via USB Card Reader (default if connected)
- Manual Card Entry (enter card number, expiration date, and ZIP code)
- How do I accept a payment using a card reader?
- Click Accept Payment.
- Enter transaction details.
- Select Take Payment.
- Insert or swipe the card.
- Choose tip amount (optional).
- Select receipt delivery method.
- How do I accept a payment manually? If no reader is connected, enter the card number, expiration date, and billing ZIP code, then follow the payment steps.
- What’s the difference between 'Authorize and Capture,' 'Authorize Only,' and 'Capture Only'?
- Authorize and Capture: Authorizes and settles the payment immediately.
- Authorize Only: Authorizes without settlement (must be captured later).
- Capture Only: Settles using a prior authorization or issuer-provided code.
Transactions
- Can I view past transactions in the app?
- Yes. Go to the Transactions menu to see payment history, capture authorize-only transactions, void unsettled ones, or issue refunds.
- How do I issue a refund?
- Open the transaction from the history list and select Refund. Refunds can only be issued after the transaction is settled.
- Can I void a transaction?
- Yes. Unsettled transactions can be voided, preventing them from being processed.
Settings & Customization
- Can I enable tipping in the app?
- Yes. Go to Settings > Transaction Settings > Allow Tipping. Once enabled, customers can select or enter a custom tip amount during checkout.
- How do I set a default sales tax rate?
- Go to Settings > Transaction Settings > Default Sales Tax and enter the percentage.
- Can I use biometric login for the app?
- Yes, if your Windows device supports biometrics. Enable it in Settings > Account Security.
- How do I add a receipt printer?
- Go to Settings > Receipt Printer and follow the prompts to connect a supported printer.
