Understanding Merchant Bank Account

A merchant bank account is a specific type of financial institution or bank account where the proceeds from your sales are deposited.

What is a Merchant ID?

A Merchant ID, sometimes referred to as a merchant account number, service entitlement number, or service establishment number, is a number associated with a merchant account. This account is used to handle credit card funding. Authorize.net does not use or store merchant IDs in our system. Please contact your Merchant Service Provider for this information. They should have it on record as it is actively used by their system.

If you have received paper statements from your Merchant Service Provider for previous funding, the merchant account number is usually listed on the statement. If you do not receive such a statement, you may ask the bank that receives your deposits if they could trace one of those deposits back to your Merchant Service Provider, so they can provide you with that company's name and phone number.

Please note that American Express and Discover often handle their own funding and would have separate merchant IDs for you. However, since your Merchant Service Provider would also handle your payment processing, they would have your merchant IDs for American Express and/or Discover if they handle these card types for you.

How to Identify your Processor

  1. Sign in to the Merchant Interface.
  2. Select Account from the main toolbar.
  3. Choose Merchant Profile from the menu on the left.
  4. Under the Payment Methods section, the Processor name will be listed.
