Understanding the "This transaction cannot be accepted" Message
The message "This transaction cannot be accepted" appears when a transaction request fails due to issues with the submitted security information. This message can reflect various errors. If you receive a Response Reason Code, you can look up the code on our developer center Response Code page.
The Response Reason Code is sometimes provided by shopping cart software when an Authorize.net error response is encountered. The Response Reason Code usually appears in parentheses before or after the error message, or it may appear with the word "Error" before it. You might need to contact your shopping cart provider for help in locating the Response Reason Code.
If you don't have the Response Reason Code, most instances of the "This transaction cannot be accepted" message can be resolved by submitting an updated Transaction Key.
Steps to Obtain a New Transaction Key:
- Sign in to the Merchant Interface.
- Select Account from the main toolbar.
- Select Settings in the main left-side menu.
- Select API Credentials & Keys.
- Select New Transaction Key.
- To disable the old Transaction Key immediately, select the checkbox labeled Disable Old Transaction Key Immediately. If this box is not selected, the old transaction key will automatically expire in 24 hours.
- Click Submit to continue.
- Request and provide PIN for verification.
- Your new Transaction Key will be displayed.
Once you have obtained your new Transaction Key, ensure to update all software that uses the Transaction Key within 24 hours.
